Grades 3-12
Discover the Scientist Within You!
The Connections Gallery is an environment that promotes learning and exploration and highlights the collection of the Buffalo Society of Natural Sciences. Our Learning Facilitators will take your group through our dynamic activity stations and help students connect prior knowledge to new and exciting experiments designed to enhance their awareness of the world around them.
The Connections Gallery is open during general museum hours. For facilitated workshops, groups must pre-register.
Dynamic 90-minute sessions help your students:

Choose from these amazing programs:
It’s All Relative |
|
| Discovering the interconnectedness of all things, students explore the exchange of energy and resources between plants, animals, and humans. Topics may include interrelationships of plant and animals, genetics, adaptations, classification of animals, ecosystems, and natural and cultural communities. | |
Life in the Physical World |
|
| The earlier students are exposed to the fascinating world of physics the more they can comprehend about the world around them. What moves you? Students will gain a deeper understanding of basic science concepts through experiments in simple machines, engineering, physics, and nanotechnology. | |
Water, Water Everywhere |
|
| ...and not a drop to drink. Around the world resources are shrinking. We can live without gasoline but what about water? Students explore the water cycle and the many states of matter from its physical and chemical characteristics to its connection to all earth systems. We also look at the social and cultural constructs of water and water as a managed resource. | |
Healthy Bodies |
|
| Come explore the complexity of the body. Students will learn about the positive effects of exercise and proper nutrition. Station activities highlight the circulatory, skeletal, nervous, and digestive systems. Discover what's under your skin as we explore what makes us human. | |
Hard Rock Café |
|
| Have your group discover their own story of the Rock Cycle. Using the Museum's collections students will explore rocks, fossils and the properties of minerals. This workshop combines science and literacy and has students create a take home activity that reinforces their experience. | |
New! Weather Whys |
|
| Buffalo is known for its weather, but what are the reasons for the seasons? Students will explore planetary weather systems and local impacts of weather. Our newest program combines engaging demonstrations with hands-on activities on topics such as low pressure systems, convection, and animal adaptations. | |
