JUNIOR GIRL SCOUTS - Get Moving Journey Workshop

April 3
1:00 pm – 4:00 pm
$10/Scout 

Understand energy systems by learning how to calculate your average eco-footprint, determine the amount of energy of different light bulbs, and build a wind turbine. Making a bead necklace and recycled paper are also part of the fun. A previous discussion of things that use power and the concept of recycling should be conducted by the Troop leader prior to the workshop.

Tifft provides a drink and snack for day programs.  Lunches are not provided.
If programs are from 10 to 2, please bring your own lunch.

If you are interested in programs not listed here, you can call to arrange your own session, if you have at least 5 scouts.  Please realize that not all times/dates are available.

 

Brownies

WOW Workshop

WOW --Water is all around us. We can’t live without it.  It brings so many wonderful things.  Join us to learn how to LOVE water and SAVE water.  We’ll investigate the properties of water, things that live in the water, how it gets dirty, and how we can clean it.

SENSES AND HIKING

2 to 4  HIKING--$5.00/girl
What better place to earn these 2 badges than a nature preserve.  There are all kinds of things to observe and smell and hear.  We’ll do the hiking to discover things after we find out about the right kind of equipment to use and how to follow trail signs.  In fact, we’ll make our own trail!

BUGS
June 15, 2013
10am—2pm
$10.00 per girl
What in the world is a bug, anyway?  Seems like we call all the small things that fly and crawl bugs.  Are they, really?  Find out the “ins and outs” of bugs and their friends.   The world would be in sad shape if we didn’t have them, everywhere.  $10.00 per girl

 

 

Juniors

CAMPER

$27.00/girl
Require 1 adult per 5 girls
Spend the night at Tifft to earn this badge.  Learn to tie knots, use a compass,  enjoy a night hike,  practice “leave no trace”, and much more.
Pizza evening snack and continental breakfast provided.  Girls provide bed rolls(we sleep on the floor) and their own toiletries.  A change of clothes is recommended.

DETECTIVE
March 3, 2013

$10.00/girl
Have you ever wanted to be a detective?  This is your chance!  Learn about “fingerprinting” and tracking.  Try manmade and natural codes to find answers.  Solve a real mystery using the “tools” of the trade.

GARDENER

Explore gardens indoors and out.  Nature makes its own gardens, too.  Learn the ways of plants and how to use them in all the best ways.

ANIMAL HABITATS

It’s all around you, and you may not even notice it.
The other animals who live in the world with us have discovered unique ways to live and survive.  What better place to check it out than a nature preserve?

FLOWERS

We usually only notice the beauty of the flowers.  Why would a plant go to all that trouble?  Investigate the parts of a flower and all the wonderful things they do.
